Dhokar Dalna Recipe (Bengali Lentil Cake Curry)

Soft dhoka. Crisp edges. Ginger gravy.

Farwa ZeeshanRecipe by Farwa ZeeshanTested in the NineFoods home kitchen

Dhoka are diamond-shaped cakes made from ground chana dal, cooked, set, cut and fried, then simmered in a light gravy. They fall apart when the dal paste is too wet or the cakes are simmered too long. This recipe cooks the paste until it leaves the pan, sets it firm, and adds the fried dhoka to the gravy only for the last few minutes.
